Lhasa Apso car

Little People

Wow! One moment I was having an early morning stretch on the bed and the next I was sitting in the car with my little seat belt on. Next to me on the back seat was a large box containing something that had a beautiful smell and two smaller boxes wrapped in brightly coloured paper. Putting together all the clues, which is something I am very good at, I realised that we were probably going to a birthday party at my sister’s house by the sea.  I yawned and settled down for a nap because, if I was right, our journey would take quite a long time.  It was comfortable on the back seat and I was soon asleep.

The Arrival

When I woke up we were just pulling onto my sister’s drive, proving I was right all along. Two little people came to greet us and took me through the house into the kitchen. Dad followed carrying the big box which he placed carefully on the table. He then removed the lid to reveal the most beautiful birthday cake I had ever seen. It looked like a car with wheels and everything but dad said it was a digger because my little nephew loved diggers and it was his birthday. After that, my parents started talking and it was time for me to go outside but not before I had eaten a few of the sweets which had dropped off the cake. Delicious. Once in the garden, I chose a shady spot and made myself comfortable. A short snooze was not out of the question.

An Invasion

Suddenly, the garden was invaded by lots of little humans running and playing all over the grass. Of course, I had to join in and so I chased one of the little boys. The more I ran after him, the more he ran away but I caught him in the end. I am a Lhasa Apso and we are very fast runners. But when I jumped up to say hello he burst into tears and ran indoors. I don’t know why he did that because I am a friendly little dog and wouldn’t hurt anyone. I thought I might get told off but nobody came out of the house so I carried on playing.

Just a little while later, I saw my little niece toddle into the garden. She was younger than all the others, probably the same age as me. I ran over to play with her but she fell down on the grass and started to cry. Oh! Oh! Mum had seen it all. She picked the little girl up and cuddled her until she stopped crying. I wanted to say sorry but no one was taking any notice of me. I was so upset I felt like crying myself

Guilty Feelings

With my tail between my legs, I slipped out of the kitchen door and back into the garden. I was really upset and walked round to the gate. There was a big gap underneath but dad had blocked it up so I couldn’t get through. However, there was another very narrow space that I could just about squeeze through, so I did and found myself outside the house without a lead. This was fun and I decided to explore. I could see our red car on the drive and I could hear other cars driving by the house. I was on the edge of the pavement waiting to run across the road when I heard a stern voice.

Centre of Attention

“Poppy! Stay where you are”! It was Dad and I froze on the spot. He picked me up and took me back in the house but he didn’t tell me off. Everyone was glad to see me especially mum who gave me a special cuddle. Even dad tickled my ears and gave me a hug. I knew I shouldn’t have run away like that but dad took the blame for not checking the garden properly. I can’t help thinking that it all turned out nicely in the end.
